Plus on the dyno... 322ps...

My plus was on the dyno today, I had 322hp and 377nm...

From 5500rpm the curve is not to good... it hesitates.

I have the original kats, and they are empty or something, they making a metal rattle sound.

The tuner thinks the car runs hot on high rpm because the bad kats.
So the engine detonates and the inginition redardes and the power goes up and down...


What do you think?

Hm, the hp is absolutly ok, the loss of power above 5500rpm mey have several reasons:

- it could be, that the dyno-room doesn't brings enough fresh air to the car. The car gets hot than, the air doesn't have enough oxygen for a full ignition.

- it could be, that the ignition-plugs are not clean. Especially outside Germany the ignition-plugs have often the problem, that they can't burn free. It is could for the engine, to get sometimes high-speed-trips on the "Autobahn" for full power. It might be, that your car has no problems on the dyno anymore, after to 200km-trip through german motorways. :wink:

- maybe the qualitiy of the fuel ist not could enugh for full power above 5500rpm. Especially at high rpms is that important.

Questition: do you feel that problem driving on the street as well?

Hello Marc.

I don't feel the power loss on the street, never did...

We drove with vagcom to make a log, when we came back we looked at the results. It is not a fuel problem, the ignition retartes a little (about 5 degrees) when the hesitation begins... probarly because knocking of the engine.


The engine sounds and feels very healthy!

A trip to the autobahn is always good! :twisted:

Hm, I think their is no problem with your engine. In most cases those tiny differences are based on not perfect runing dynos...

There were more cars on the dyno that day without any prolems.
Vagcom showed that the ignition goes back a few degrees at high rpm.
A '98 a8 4.2 had exaclty factory specs 300hp and 401nm...

This is a result of a S8 340hp on the same dyno, almost the same power output!

Yes, but this is a very good and relaiable dyno and VAG tuner in Holland.

A "dyno-check" like this is not an accurate measurement.

It is rather an examination of certain parameters with following computer calculation (compensation for bearing and aerodynamic losses with default values) of the engine performance.

Exact engine performance can be measured correctly only on an engine test stand, not on a roll chassis dynamometer.

You should see the test result as approximate engine performance.

I know, but I am not satisfied about the dips from 5000-7000rpm.

Maybe it has something to do with the Schaltsaugrohr?


But now I have metall kats 200cell, and 2x65mm exhaust from the downpipes, the torque is much better now, between 3500-5000rpm the car pulls stronger. I have even a little vibrition in the drive line with full throttle from 3500rpm wich I didn't had before.

And the engine intake sound is different and softer.

Yes the torque is very bad, only 370nm, this 20% less then it should have. My last rs4 had 424hp and 579nm torque and this from 2,7lt. Do you use 98 octan gas.

Not so bad bacause S6+ max torque is 400Nm and so 377Nm is only ~6% less
