Speedometer problems

Ungelesener Beitrag von Anders »

Hello,

My speedo is jumping all over when I start driving my Plus. For the first few kilometers the speedo needle drops from the actual speed, to zero, then up again to the speed I am driving. This happens quite a few times for the first minutes of driving. No matter if the car is wet or dry.

I know the contact for the speedo is located on the left front drive shaft (I can see it when I stick my head into the fender, but I can hardly reach it)

Does anybody know what I can do to this contact to make it not lose connection of electricity? Do need to replace the whole thing or can I clean it somehow? Has anybody else had this problem?

regards,

Anders

I´m nearly sure, that it is the sensor of the speedometer at the gearbox. If the isolation is broken and water comes into the sensor you have this problem, I had ist allready twice...

If you can lay under your car, you can touch the sensor ontop of the gearbox, it´s durty...

Thank You Marc!

But what is the contact (a square one with cables coming from it) that sits on the left front drive shaft then?

Is it something else?

Sorry, I don´t understand that question.

Of course the water comes into the contact and not into the sensor. You only have to clean it and you have to make sure that no water comes into it anymore.

Well, as long as I know the location of it, it is ok. Lying under.. top of gearbox...

I must locate it and make it free from dirt and possible water.

Thanx Marc!
